Los Angeles - Business Development Officer

Country : Los Angeles, CA or Washington, DC Department : Development Innovations Essential Job Duties/Scope of Work : International Medical Corps currently supports a large portfolio of humanitarian, transitional and development programming across more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Haiti. The program interventions address the broader social determinants of health, inclusive of primary health care in both acute and chronic crises contexts. Specific areas within the broader health programming umbrella that IMC works in includes reproductive health, communicable disease control, gender based violence, mental health and psychosocial support, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) promotion, nutrition, food security and livelihoods.

The Business Development Officer will collaborate closely with the Health Technical Unit, Nutrition and Food Security Department, Finance, Human Resources and other internal departments. S/he will also spend a significant amount of time in the field, working directly with Country Directors to both prepare for, and respond to, donor solicitations. The primary function of the position is to support IMC’s competitive pursuit of institutional donor resources with a focus on complex, multi-year, multi-million dollar opportunities. The Business development Officer will also provide specialized assistance in other dimensions of the business development cycle -positioning and capture planning, proposal development and after action review.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Key Component #1 – Positioning, capture planning and proposal development

Team manage and/or write proposals based on the need identified by the Deputy Director-DI, Regional Coordinator and Country Director Support the development of new business opportunities that capitalize on IMC’s existing comparative advantage related to the geographic operational areas and programmatic interventions with an emphasis on pre-positioning and building strong partnerships. Work closely with Regional Coordinators and Regional Program Development Officers to harmonize IMC’s proposal writing efforts, creating a greater synergy in IMC’s relief to development programming Engage with members of the technical departments to become familiar with International Medical Corps’ approach and solutions ; evaluate proposed solutions to identify weaknesses and suggest areas for improvement as pertinent to donor solicitation and intent ; Work with subject matter experts, including country office staff, to translate technical solutions into a clearly articulated, compelling, and compliant proposal document that is well written ; Develop proposal content that addresses the requirements outlined in the solicitation, scores well in terms of the evaluation criteria, and incorporates win themes developed by the proposal team ; Work with team on effective graphics for inclusion in the proposal ; Actively contribute to lessons learned/after action reviews Key Component #2 - Representation and Communication

Represent International Medical Corps at relevant donor and government meetings Build relationships with prospective partner agencies, academic institutions and private sector entities Other duties as assigned. Qualifications : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function with or without reasonable accommodation.

Master’s Degree in Public Health, International Development or similar educational background AND 5-7 years’ experience in international program management, development, design and implementation of programs in developing countries with preference for experience in Health and/or nutrition and food security ; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent writing skills and strong ability to synthesize large amounts of information into clear, concise narrative In-depth knowledge of key USG funding priorities and donors (USAID, CDC, etc.) Proven track record of business development in non-profit organizations ; Demonstrated creativity, ability to apply innovative thinking, and acute problem solving skills ; Fluency in written and spoken English is essential and fluency in French an asset ; Strong computer skills and graphic design skills.
